Luke Martin McCormick (born 15 August 1983) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Plymouth Argyle. He previously played for Plymouth between 2000 and 2008, but his contract was cancelled by mutual consent in July 2008 after he caused a car crash which killed two children. On 6 October 2008, he was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison, for two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol. McCormick was released from prison on 6 June 2012; he returned to football playing on non-contract terms for Truro City in November 2012, before returning to league football on 31 January 2013 with Oxford United. He was released at the end of the 2012–13 season and, in May 2013, re-signed for Plymouth Argyle on a one-year contract. In July 2014, McCormick was controversially assigned the role of 'club captain' at Plymouth Argyle (Although the current captain is Curtis Nelson). ==Career== McCormick started the 2003–04 season at Plymouth Argyle as a backup for Romain Larrieu, but when Larrieu sustained an injury to his cruciate knee ligaments, he soon proved himself a competent replacement. Upon winning a 2–0 game over Stockport County on 24 January 2004, McCormick set a new club record of seven consecutive clean sheets, leading him to be voted the most promising player of the 2003–04 season by Plymouth Argyle fans. Larrieu regained his place as first-choice keeper shortly into the 2004–05 season. In October 2004, the Plymouth Argyle manager Bobby Williamson sent McCormick on loan to Boston United of League Two, so that he could continue playing first-team football. Linked with a move away to Leicester with former Argyle manager Ian Holloway, McCormick put in a series of important and impressive displays in the final matches of the 2007–08 season. However, he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and received a prison sentence of more than seven years in October 2008, by which time his Plymouth contract had been terminated. In May 2012, with his release from prison pending, Swindon Town announced their intention to offer McCormick a trial period, but they finished the trial in August 2012 without offering him a contract.〔()〕 McCormick signed with Conference South club Truro City on a non-contract basis in November 2012 and made his debut against Farnborough in the FA Trophy on 10 November. He played 15 matches for Oxford, but lost his first team place to Max Crocombe by mid-April and he was released at the end of the season. In May 2013, it was reported that McCormick in talks to return to Plymouth Argyle, five years after his departure; on 9 May 2013 he re-signed for the club on a one-year contract.
